NEXT GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION - NOVEMBER 5, 2024

One Mayor (At-Large), One Councilmember (District 1), One Councilmember (District 2), One City Treasurer (At-Large), and One City Clerk (At-Large)
will be voted for in 2024

The Santa Maria City Council is comprised of four Councilmembers, elected by district to four-year terms, and a Mayor, elected at-large to a four-year term. The City Treasurer and City Clerk are also elected at-large and each serve four-year terms.

• To be eligible to run for Mayor, City Treasurer, or City Clerk in November 2024, candidates must reside within the City limits of the City of Santa Maria and be a registered voter in the City of Santa Maria at the time nomination papers are issued.

• To be eligible to run for City Council in Districts 1 or 2, candidates must reside within the District boundaries for the Council seat to be elected and be a register voter within of that District at the time nomination papers are issued. 

Interested residents must make an appointment with the City Clerk's Office to receive and submit campaign documents during the Nomination Period beginning July 15 and ending on August 9, 2024. The Nomination Period will be extended to 5:00 p.m. on August 14, 2024, if an incumbent fails to file nomination papers by the August 9th deadline.

Step 2:     Complete nomination papers and collect signatures

Step 3:     File nomination papers with the City Clerk's Office
                      Deadline August 9 (or extended to August 14)
