The HOME Investment Partnerships Program, administered by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, awards funds for a variety of activities aimed at developing and providing affordable housing for low and moderate-income households. The City of Santa Maria annually receives HOME funds through a consortium with the County of Santa Barbara. With this funding, the City administers the Tenant Based Rental Assistance (TBRA) Program.
TBRA PROGRAM FOR SECURITY DEPOSIT ASSISTANCE
The TBRA Program assists low-income households obtain housing by providing security deposit assistance. The program covers 100 percent of the security deposit, with $2,500 being the maximum amount. To qualify, an applicant's household income level must be 60 percent or less than the area median income, and the rental unit must follow local fair market rents. In addition, all program guidelines must be met. To access the program, interested applicants are required to be referred by a Qualified Referring Agency (QRA).
